A/Prof Gideon Rosenbaum
Gideon is a structural geologist and tectonicists. He is studying the fundamental processes that control rock deformation at all scales: from microstructures and field observations to the formation of continents and oceans.
Research Interests
Gideon’s research interest is concerned with mountain building and subduction processes, continental deformation and lithospheric extension. Gideon’s research covers a wide range of projects, for example, a reconstruction of the complex interactions in the subduction environment represented by the tectonic history of the southern New England Orogen. In addition, he is also involved in a collaborative research project on the geodynamics of lithospheric extension.
Gideon says the best thing about being a geologist is that the “lab” is planet Earth. Wherever you go, there is something interesting to be discovered. You cannot possibly get bored, and there is also a fair bit of travelling to remote corners of the world.
In his spare time...
Gideon spends his spare time playing jazz piano and taking his family on outdoor adventures.
