Why Study Geology?
Geological Sciences is the study of the interacting systems of the earth, the atmosphere, the hydrosphere and the biosphere as they evolve through time. As a qualified geologist you will discover, develop and responsibly manage minerals, energy and other earth resources.
Your geological knowledge is crucial to our capacity to ensure a sustainable supply of natural resources and to use these resources responsibly. It is essential for solving environmental challenges, such as climate change, energy production, and the environmental impact we have on our world. Geological Sciences at UQ delivers core scientific courses to provide a foundation for studying fundamental geological methods and problems, in the laboratory and in the field.
The School of Earth Sciences is dedicated to a strong education ethos; training tomorrow’s earth scientists to meet the demands of an ever changing, environmentally conscious world, dependent on reliable energy and mineral supplies
